These conversations strengthen judgment, surface risks that don’t always appear in spreadsheets, and help ensure state decisions reflect real conditions on the ground.Listening first leads to more responsible leadership. Responsible stewardship means managing Nevada’s money with care, discipline, and long-term judgment. The State Treasurer’s core responsibility is to safeguard taxpayer dollars, manage debt responsibly, and ensure that decisions made today do not create unnecessary risk tomorrow.In my doctoral research, I studied how public funds are governed across multiple U.S. states, including how accountability structures, risk tolerance, and investment strategy shape long-term outcomes. One consistent lesson is that states that treat public money as a long-term trust — rather than a political tool — are better positioned to remain stable through economic cycles.As Treasurer, stewardship means:• Managing debt carefully to avoid overextending future budgets • Prioritizing stability and liquidity over speculative returns • Investing public funds with clear objectives and strong oversight • Making decisions that remain sound in both strong and uncertain economic conditionsGood stewardship isn’t loud. It’s measured, disciplined, and focused on protecting the public interest over time.

The Treasurer’s job is to protect taxpayer dollars, manage debt carefully, and make long-term financial decisions that keep Nevada stable — not gamble with public money or chase short-term political wins.

Responsible Stewardship of Nevada’s Money

Fairness, transparency, and accountability are essential to managing public money responsibly. Strong financial systems should operate predictably and fairly, so working families are not disadvantaged by decisions made far from their daily lives.My research has examined how public institutions use clear, data-driven tools to evaluate whether financial systems are working as intended and whether benefits and risks are shared equitably. In practice, this means using evidence to ensure financial decisions are transparent, accountable, and structured to support opportunity across communities over time.

Nevadans deserve to know how their money is managed. Transparency, strong oversight, and ethical decision-making are essential to earning public trust and ensuring funds are used as intended.
